Frequently Asked Questions

This page contains a list of frequently asked questions (FAQ) about the Theocratic Research Utilities. If you have a question, I ask that you review this information before e-mailing me.

Installation

What should I do if I have a problem installing the programs?

First, make sure to follow the installation directions supplied on the download page. If you receive an error message when trying to run the installation program, verify that the downloaded file is the size listed on the download page. If it isn't, try downloading the file again.

If you receive a "Not a valid Win32 application" message when running the installation program, try downloading the zipped version of the program instead.

General

What should I do if I have a problem running the programs?

Full documentation for the programs can be found in each program's help file. To display the help file, simply press the F1 key from within the program.

If you are still unable to resolve the problem and decide to e-mail me, please provide a thorough description of the problem. In particular, list the exact steps you follow as well as the exact text of any error messages you receive.

Can I run the programs from a portable USB drive?

Yes. Simply copy the TRU folder from your Program Files folder to the USB flash drive or use this tool to do it for you. The only caveat is to exit TruStudy using the tray icon, as merely closing the Study Assistant window will not exit the program.

Updates

How and when are updates to the programs provided?

Program updates are provided through this web site. However, until an update is actually released, I can't make any promises about availability.

Can I check for updates from within the programs?

Yes. To check for TruStudy program and data updates, click the "Check for updates" link on the About tab of the Options dialog box. For TruList, use the Updates item on the Help menu.

Languages

Do you have a version of the programs for other languages?

While the TRU programs were designed with English users in mind, basic support for adding other languages is now included. Please check the download page for the availability of other language packs.

If you would like to assist in translating the TRU programs for use with another language version of the Watchtower Library, please e-mail me for further information.

Other

What is freeware?

The Theocratic Research Utilities are freeware. This means that you are free to continue using the programs for as long as you like. It is not necessary to register the programs.

How can I add the full Daily Text with comments?

While the Daily Text comments are not included with the programs because of copyright issues, it is possible to add this information yourself. If you have the Watchtower Library for the current year, simply right-click the Daily Text area of the Study Assistant and select Import from the pop-up menu.
